Vox Populi is:

  • Carter Graham: Keys, Composer

  • Kelsey Rosentreter: Vocals

  • Aaron Shorr: Guitar

  • Julian Bradford: Bass

  • Kevin Waters: Drums

Vox Populi was born out of a desire to rekindle the lost art of writing great dance music, derived from the classic era of soul and pop music. The band’s musical identity revolves around both the love of spontaneously improvised music and the thorough, deliberate crafting of a good song. While it may be difficult to definitively say where their compositions reside best in the genre column, there is no doubt their sound is heavily influenced by soul, funk, rhythm and blues, and jazz, otherwise collectively known as BAM.

Since 2016, Vox Populi has been sharing their music with eager audiences. The band consists of seasoned session musicians, including Julian Bradford on bass, Kevin Waters on drums, Aaron Shorr on guitar and the incredibly talented Kelsey Rosentreter on vocals.

In 2017, Vox Populi was honoured to kick off the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival on opening night, at the Cube in Old Market Square. That same year also saw the band open for Tanika Charles during her stop in Winnipeg while on her first Canadian national tour, promoting her debut album Soul Run, an extremely proud moment for the band that saw them grow as a unit.

Following a residency in New York City, which helped foster an immense output of new creative work, Carter is excited to be home, anxious to share his new compositions, and looks forward to recording his latest songs in the new year.

In every song, whether fast or slow, complex or simple, the immensely important element of dance is central to every Vox Populi song. Genuine, uncomplicated joy is what audiences can expect to hear when Vox is performing in their neighbourhood.
